    I picked up this novel because: 1) I'd read some very positive reviews of the author's "The Sell Out"; 2) I've recently written a couple of articles on Black culture and have been reading about it (the suppression, cultivation, denial, hagiography, post-mortem, etc.); and 3) the book is thick with musical references, including to some free /5.
